Her early travels were to England by ship as a child and her later trips included Central Asia and South America before they were fashionable. She grew up in Pymble when it was still semi-rural and as a child she learnt to ride and use chopsticks when she was sent to a rural property during the Second World War. Her family had a passion for art and her mother played tennis with Grace Cossington-Smith, her grandfather was a Scottish doctor who in the late nineteenth century travelled as a ship's doctor to China and went on to establish the school of anatomy at Sydney University, her great grandfather was for a short time the Chief Justice of NSW |
